The Institute's summer youth employment program needs your support

The Institute for the Study and Practice of Nonviolence (ISPN) is offering summer employment opportunities to neighborhood youth and we need your help. Through our Beloved Community Summer Program, we supply jobs for 30 young people. So far, we have raised $30,695, enough money to offer our program to 20 youth, and we are asking you and other members of the community to help us find additional funding to reach our goal of 30 participants.

US lessons for interface workers

Tackling the mean streets of Boston may have lessons for Belfast community workers, say their US counterparts. A group from New England is on a week-long visit to pass on advice for those working in NI's interface areas.

Streetworker Program featured on Rhode Island Public Radio

"Violent crime is down in Providence. Police and community activists attribute the decline partly to new one-on-one efforts to discourage violence by young people. WRNI's Deborah Becker visited some Providence neighborhoods this week to watch the work of street-workers, employed by The Institute For the Study and Practice of Nonviolence."

In the last few years, the Institute achieved the following:

• Trained more than 1,000 students in four communities to use Nonviolence;
• Reduced arrests in the Kennedy Plaza bus interchange by 95%;
• Mediated conflicts in 15 schools in Providence;
• Employed and trained 27 youth in the the Beloved Community Summer Program;
• Intervened in hundreds of community conflicts;
• Prevented more than 100 acts of retaliatory violence;
• Graduated 23 new Nonviolence Trainers.

this server does NOT require "authentication" or passwords, so turn those off.
