14 committed individuals from diverse backgrounds throughout Rhode Island participated in a 5-week training program, learning the Kingian philosophy of Nonviolence (Six Principles of Nonviolence and the Six Steps to Problem Solving).
Building the “Beloved Community” is the goal of The Institute for the Study & Practice of Nonviolence.
The mission of the Institute is to teach by word and example the principles
and practices of nonviolence and to foster a community that addresses
potentially violent situations with nonviolent solutions.
The Institute for the Study and Practice of Nonviolence addresses the issue
of changing how communities think and react to violence. As a result of the
increased number of young people who have been thoughtlessly and needlessly
killed in Rhode Island and Providence in particular, the Institute was
formed. This is the third TRAINING OF TRAINERS conducted by The
Institute.
The new trainers will help meet the growing demand for
Nonviolence trainings.
