About the Institute

  • Our mission is to teach by word and example the principles and practice of nonviolence, and to foster a community that addresses potentially violent situations with nonviolent solutions.

We operate the "Nonviolence Streetworkers" - an acclaimed intervention and outreach program; we teach nonviolence in the schools; and we train adults and youth in nonviolence through our "train the trainer" programs.

Staci Cherwinski

A poem in honor of David..
Before everyone was stuck
not knowing what to do or who to go to
you were there always to comfort
the way you made us feel guided us in the right
direction
you said "I'll see you in highschool"
we took your advice on to stay out trouble
and stuck with the right pople
now 6/4/09 all we have is the memories and a picture of what you looked like.
Drinkning and driving is was what cut your life short it wasnt you it was just some stupid drunk driver that casued the accident.
you were only trying to help
why did you have to go
why oh why.
when we needed you the most, now everyone is stuck not knowing what to do because we miss you and need you..
after seeing you like that i didnt belive my eyes you werent the same.. your handsome voice professional but slang in some way always made me laugh.
no matter how many days or years or even centuries that past i will not and none will ever forget about you.. David Jr. Cartagena.... we love you and will never forget about you.. you were the reason for my scucess and accomplishments. I love you.. RIP David...XOOXO

Love: Staci C. Sophmore at Central Highschool ...
