About the Institute

  • Our mission is to teach by word and example the principles and practice of nonviolence, and to foster a community that addresses potentially violent situations with nonviolent solutions.

We operate the "Nonviolence Streetworkers" - an acclaimed intervention and outreach program; we teach nonviolence in the schools; and we train adults and youth in nonviolence through our "train the trainer" programs.

My heart broke when my daughter told me about David's passing. Although she met him only in passing, she remembers him and the stories I would tell her about this exceptional person and the trainings we did together. His impact was apparent the moment he entered the room and more than once, he saved the day by connecting with the school youth in a way I could not. My challenge now is to allow the room created by the break in my heart to not close, but rather to further expand my heart's capacity and to do what I can to replace the light that went out with his passing.
