Three Cities Coalition

The Three Cities Coalition is a space for youth advocates to build community and find empowerment as leaders of change. The objective of the Three Cities Coalition is to create a sustainable space for youth leadership in public policy and advocacy at the Nonviolence Institute.

NVI is a convener of diverse perspectives, bringing stakeholders together around the principles of nonviolence in efforts to promote the health of our beloved community.

High school students from Pawtucket, Providence and Central Falls come together each week to build strategies to end the school-to-prison pipeline and build futures of racial equity for all youth. Together the students created their own mission statement: "We use our voices to create a transformed understanding: that every young person is essential to the growth and fabric of our community."

At the weekly workshops the youth engage in community building and leadership development exercises, interactive discussions with guest speakers, and advocacy project building. Through these activities, the students cultivate a deeper understanding of the practices of nonviolence and restorative justice. In presentations, the youth speak out about how communities can use the tools of nonviolence and restorative justice to address the problems of racial injustice and building a brighter future for all young Rhode Islanders. We're very proud of the work of the Three Cities Coalition and our youth advocates.
