Background


The Nonviolence Institute (NVI) seeks to teach by word and example the principles and practices of nonviolence, and to foster a community that addresses potentially violent situations with nonviolent solutions. NVI has helped to significantly lower violence in the City of Providence and other cities in the state and the country, through the offering of quality comprehensive services. The Nonviolence Training Department specifically works to increase the knowledge and skills of any individual or group to resolve conflict by using the principles and practices of Nonviolence. MLK’s theory of nonviolence is the foundation from which all Nonviolence Institute programs and services are built on.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and conduct Nonviolence training for external community partners and internal staff

  • Collaborate to update Nonviolence Trainings offered by the Institute

  • Strengthen current partnerships by expanding the Nonviolence Training

  • Seek new partnerships that increase the Institute’s impact on the communities it serves

  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of reporting, data collection, and data entry

  • Able to perform other duties as assigned

  • Reports to Senior Nonviolence Facilitators

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent

  • Experience in Human Services, Criminal Justice, Social Work, or equivalent work

  • Experience teaching and/or facilitating groups

  • A commitment to learn and promote the principles and practices of Nonviolence

  • Experience working with populations from diverse backgrounds

  • Understands the effects of trauma and the value of trauma-informed services Excellent organizational and communication skills

  • Proficient with computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel and social media

  • Ability to work in a collaborative, team environment

  • Available to work weekdays, nights and/or weekends

  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred

  • Must have a fully registered and insured vehicle and a valid driver’s license

  • Must submit to a national and state background check
