On Tuesday, March 29, 2022 from 9 to 4pm the Nonviolence Institute will once again host this program to eliminate or reduce Superior and District Court debt for Rhode Islanders. We are happy to be a part of this important event and we strongly recommend that individuals register online, due to the expected large crowd.

Superior and District Court Debt Review Event

Many Rhode Islanders owe the courts money for costs and fees related to criminal convictions, but are unable to pay due to lack of income and other financial obligations. On March 29th, 2022 the RI Superior and District Court are providing an opportunity for people who have outstanding court debt to meet virtually with a judge in a community setting in order to apply to REDUCE or ELIMINATE their outstanding debt and clear any cost-related warrants based on assessment of their ability to pay.

Please note: this only applies to court costs owed to Superior Court and District Court. It does not include any restitution.

Event Date and Time: Tuesday, March 29th, 2022 from 9 am to 4 pm

Location: Nonviolence Institute at 265 Oxford Street in Providence

Please register in advance so that the participating judges can review files in advance to make the day go as quickly as possible.

Judges will be appearing virtually by video on a computer. People who have registered in advance will be seen by a judge in the order that they arrive. Thanks in advance for your patience.

This event is being organized by the Committee on Racial and Ethnic Fairness in the Courts, the Center for Health and Justice Transformation and the Reentry Campus Program.
