Another Successful Event for Invest in Peace

Updated: Dec 21, 2021

The Nonviolence Institute’s annual fundraiser, Invest in Peace, took place on September 26 at the Temple to Music in Providence’s Roger Williams Park. We gathered on a beautiful fall day to celebrate our Beloved Community and enjoy music, poetry, food, and friendship.

The Institute honored Dewayne “Boo” Hackney with the Sister Ann Keefe Award, and Edward “Ned” Handy and Washington Trust with the Community Partnership Impact Award. Music was provided by the Bethel AME Church Providence Music Ministry and RPM Voices of Rhode Island. Poet Medusah Black brought the crowd to its feet with her incredible performance.

Lisa Pina-Warren, Director of Intervention Services, spoke eloquently about what it means to lose someone to violence. NVI staff and victims’ family members released biodegradable white dove balloons into the sky in memory of those who have been taken from us. All funds raised by the event will be used to support our programs and services.

Event sponsors included Ocean State Job Lot Charitable Foundation, Amica Insurance, Teknor Apex, and Washington Trust.
